Patriots 24, Eagles 21 Halftime
Pundits all day threw 24 point spread dirt on the Eagles. With Donovan McNabb out, few gave Philly a chance–including me. I picked the Patriots to win 44-18. For once, it’s good to be wrong. The Eagles, namely Lito Sheppard have kept the rock out of the hands of Randy Moss. The Patriots have TDs from Asante Samuel on a 40 yard interception return, a Heath Evans one yard run and a Jabar Gafney 19 yard catch (on a controversial end line touchdown that inexplicably wasn’t reviewed in the waning seconds of the first half). A Stephen Gostkowski field goal rounds out the scoring.
The Eagles have two touchdowns from Greg Lewis–18 and 28 yards respectively–and a one yard run by Brian Westbrook. Win or lose the Eagles have played well so far.
Third quarter
Patriots possession
On second and 14 a pass intended for Kevin Faulk was almost intercepted by JR Reed. On the ensuing play, Darren Howard sacks Brady inside the ten. Patriots punt.
HarveyDent Says: JR’s having a career game tonight.
Reed indeed is having a game and is making the most of the Eagles calling him back after getting cut.
Eagles possession
1st down: Reggie Brown 5 yard reception.
2nd down: Westbrook for three.
3rd down: Westbrook stuffed.
Punt.
Patriots possession
1st down: Maroney, making his first carry of the game, is stuffed.
2nd down: Welker for 7.
3rd down 4: Brady scrambles for the first down.
1st down: Whew! Moss can’t hold on to a bomb he was late picking up through the air.
2nd down: Maroney rushes for 7.
3rd and 3: Welker grab up to the 40 for a first down.
1st down: Maroney for 6. Patriots are going to ground game.
2nd down: Maroney for first down.
1st down: Play action pass broken up by outside pressure. Eagles are getting to Brady like no one this season outside of Indy.
2nd down: Maroney loses two.
3rd and 12: Welker for 42.
JR Reed shaken up on the play. Timeout.
It’s logical that the Eagles would rather someone else do the trick instead of R. Moss.
1st down: Out of the shotgun, Brady passes to Moss for offensive pass interference.
This is a penalty that has not been called as much this year.
Brady almost intercepted by B Dawk in end zone.
2nd down: Brady’s pass behind Welker over the middle incomplete. Brady is feeling the pressure.
3rd and goal: Pocket collapses. Brady gets rid of the ball. Gastkowski field goal hooked left. Go Eagles go! Jimmy Johnson’s pressure so far is keeping Brady and this high powered offense honest.
Eagles possession
Diallo Says: Whoa. Are you starting to get that feeling? lol
Mizzo: Hell no! 😉
HarveyDent Says: I’m trying NOT to get that feeling, D, because as an Eagle fan you know the team always comes up just short, just short.I’m enjoying the game though and trying not to get too foxy.
*********
1st down: Feeley passes to Shoebel for first down.
2nd down: Pass to L.J. Smith incomplete. Flag on play. Illegal shift. Patriots decline.
Repeat down. Incomplete pass.
3rd down and 10: Feeley passes 19 yards to wide open Kevin Curtis.
Injury timeout
1st down: A Michael Vick dogfight reference by Al Michaels. He’s such a funny guy. Feeley’s pass high.
2nd down: 16 yard flea flicker to Basket results in a first down.
1st down: Feeley’s pass complete to Curtis for another first down.
1st down: Shotgun flip left to Westbrook for 7 yard gain.
2nd down: Pass high to Reggie Brown.
Timeout 1:39
3rd and 4 Big play. Patriots with 6 defensive backs: Reggie Brown touchdown!
10 pass plays for 78 yards. Bookies are hot!
Eagles 28, Patriots 24
There will be a full fledged controversy this week in Philly.
Patriots possession
1st down: Screen pass dropped by Maroney.
2nd down: Welker up to 40. Gain of 7.
3rd and 3 Play of game so far: Dropped by Faulk!
Flag on punt. If it’s on the Eagles it will result in a 1st down. Neutral zone infraction. Patriots retain possession. Big gaffe by Eagles that may be a turning point in a back and forth game.
1st down: Donte Stallworth drops pass.
2nd down: Maroney for four.
End of 3. Eagles 28, Patriots 24.
4th quarter
HarveyDent Says: 4 Fingers in the air…as my boys the Stews would say it’s nut-cuttin’ time now.
Yes back in the day we were smacking the pads to the beat. Chanting “Fourth Quarter, fourth quarter!”
3rd and 6 from 48. Pass to Welker complet to 39.
1st down: pass to Ben Watson for 6.
2nd down: Pass behind Welker incomplete.
3rd down 4: Another big play. Omar Gaither defenses Brady pass to Watson and breaks it up.
4th and 4: Patriots go for it and the pass is incomplete! Eagles ball at their own 33.
Eagles pressure is the difference in the game so far.
Diallo Says: Pats stopped again?!? I can feel it coming in the air tonight. Oh Lord…
Eagles possession
1st down: This is where you separate the sweat from the tears. Feeley passes 11 yards to Reggie Brown.
Roosevelt Colvin and Randall Gay out due to injury. This is why you play the game. Injuries mount during the season that make a difference.
2nd down: Feeley passes short to Curtis into double coverage. Incomplete.
3rd down 8: Incomplete pass to Westbrook out of backfield. Junior Seau on defense.
Bad punt. Patriots ball.
Patriots possession
1st down: 13 yards omplete to Stallworth for 1st down. Flag on play. Illegal use of hands declined (Sheppard)
Madden alludes to Moss being frustrated.
1st down: 12 yard pass to Faulk into Philly territory.
1st down: 14 yard pass to Welker.
1st down: Short gain to Donte Stallworth.
Tom Brady 29/47 for 330.
Philly timeout. One left.
HarveyDent Says: Stiffen D Stiffen.
2nd down: Faulk upended by Takeo Spikes!
Faulk loses yard. Highlight hit.
3rd down 9: Welker 15 yards.
1st down: Sheppard defenses Moss with underneath help from Brian Dawkins, inclomplete.
2nd down: Welker 10 yard catch.
1st and goal: Welker drops touchdown. Omar Gaither on defense.
HarveyDent Says: A turnover would be very nice right now.2nd and goal: Lawrence Maroney touchdown!
Patriots 31, Eagles 28 7:20 left to play.
Eagles possession
Crunch time!
Flag on kickoff. Block in back. Not a good time for this. If the Eagles are to win, cool intelligence is the key.
1st down: Seven yard pass to Westbrook.
2nd down: Looks like the Super Bowl right here doesn’t it Harvey Dent? Almost eerily so. Incomplete pass on outside almost intercepted by Asante Samuel.
3rd and 3: 11 yard completion to L.J. Smith.
1st down: Pass to Westbrook for 8
2nd down: Completion to Smith up to 48.
1st down: 13 yard completion to Curtis
1st down: Westbrook 6 yard gain.
2nd down: WTF!!! A.J. Feeley lofts interception in end zone to Asante Samuel. What was Feeley thinking? That’s that Philly Rocky bs. (Sorry folks but this town’s most recognizable “hero” is Rocky Balboa)
HarveyDent Says: Didn’t need that turnover.
Diallo Says: Why throw that? Game over.
Touchback
Patriots possession
1st down: Pass to Welker
Welker 13 catches for 149.
2nd down: Pass to Watson. Eagles have to hold or this pretty much is it.
3rd and 1: Flag! Wow! Patriots false start.
3rd and 6: Damn! Brady pass to Gafney for 1st down.
1st down: Maroney minimal gain.
Moss no catches in 2nd half.
2 minute warning
2nd down: Maroney stopped. Eagles are going to get around 25 seconds.
3rd and 9: Maroney stopped.
Punt.
Eagles need a huge play (punt return) out of Westbrook here. Westbrook fumbles but Eagles retain possession.
Eagles possession
19 seconds left.
HarveyDent Says: Come on, come on, come on!
1st down: Feeley intercepted by Sanders.
Feeley is 27/42 for 345 but tosses 3 picks.
Ballgame.
Final score Patriots 31, Eagles 28
Temple3 Says: Big up to the Eagles. They showed a lotta heart.
Scotty Says: Very nice effort by the Eagles, I actually stayed awake for the full game, still, the Pats are the class of the NFL, Welker showed he’s a stud wide receiver in the NFl.
Patriots run record to an unblemished 11-0
There are no moral victories in pro sports.
Eagles fall to 5-6 and sit with 5 other teams one game behind the Lions for the final playoff spot.
I rescheduled an interview with WIP sports talk shock jock Howard Eskin because of the holiday. I’ll be sure to get into the studio this week to get his thoughts on the Eagles performance. One thing will be sure, Donovan might be done here.
My stomach hurts already. Donovan is gonna get slammed in the media starting tomorrow. This is gonna be a crazy week here.
November 23, 2007 at 8:37 am
The Pats are going 19 and 0
November 23, 2007 at 8:54 am
I think Pitt might get ’em bruh
November 23, 2007 at 6:01 pm
The Patriots are favored by 22.5, and they’re not even sure McNabb is playing.
November 23, 2007 at 10:55 pm
Id rather the Steelers get them in January than in December.
RIght now i just wanna beat Miami on MNF. One game at a time.
November 24, 2007 at 7:52 am
I’m not gonna crow about destroying a bad Jets squad. Destroying the Packers? There will be crowing. Boy, will there be crowing.
I don’t make the rules, Mizzo. I do not make the rules.
November 24, 2007 at 8:05 am
Man I can’t take this. 😉
November 24, 2007 at 10:57 am
I dont root for the Packers often…but i will on Thursday….these cowboys fans need to be reminded they arent the ONLY team having a good year.
November 24, 2007 at 8:23 pm
Oh man. I love me some HATE.
November 24, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Yo D..You are gonna get yours bruh. Ish is getting ridiculous. Oh Lawd please take care of the cowboys…please please 😉
November 25, 2007 at 12:10 am
Mizzo,
Stop hating on the cowboys. The eagles had T.O. let him go now he’s doin his thing in BIG D. Remember he who laughs last, laughs the loudest!
November 25, 2007 at 12:12 am
It’s a Philly thing!
November 25, 2007 at 12:14 am
Prolifyk,
Oh, is that it?
November 25, 2007 at 12:15 am
I respect the Cowboys, but don’t like em a lick. Yeah we did have TO and definitely messed that up but it will never shade my disdain for the blue and silver star
November 25, 2007 at 10:31 am
Brady is the smartest player in the game and Belichick the smartest coach. Tough to beat a team like the Patriots that plays with such vastly superior intelligence. I’m a Philly fan, but you gotta give credit where it’s due and bow down to these guys.
November 25, 2007 at 3:26 pm
‘Scuse my French but FUKK DA COWBOYS and their front runnin’ fans…I could spot most of these Cowboys’ fans New Mexico and Louisiana on a map and they’d never find Texas. Real funny I never saw all this damn blue and silver during the Campo days or when Romo fumbled that ball last season. More power to ’em but I could care less if the Eagles go 0-16 but I’ll never have little more than a bucket of cold snot for Amerikkka’s Team.
November 25, 2007 at 5:16 pm
HarveyDent,
Damn! Your rough on the boy’s fans. I guess it’s a Philly thing.
November 26, 2007 at 1:30 am
Michelle Ive lived in DFW for 4 yrs.
Cow fans are GOAT of front running.
People i didnt even think LIKED football are suddenly diehard Cowboy fans.
WHA?
and its time.
BENCH ELI!
November 26, 2007 at 4:36 am
Devin Hester has two touchdowns. Why do teams continue kicking to him? Neon must be proud.
November 26, 2007 at 6:41 am
Oh snap. Philly is showing some fight. If AJ Feely (AJ FEELY!!) beats the Pats, is it a wrap for McNabb? Would that be the final straw, even if it turns out to be a defensive/Westbrook win?
November 26, 2007 at 6:42 am
of course 😦
November 26, 2007 at 6:48 am
I’ve never been a McNabb fan but that would suck.
November 26, 2007 at 6:55 am
That’s Philly love for you.
November 26, 2007 at 7:07 am
Win or lose, McNabb’s outta there anyway after the season. Management is just greasin’ the rails for his ride out of town and this game is as good an opening as any. I’m PO’d with him if he didn’t try to fight to get into this game tonight. At least let them know they have to hide the helmet to keep you out of this game.
TD from Feeley to Greg Lewis. I’m still rooting for the team though even if its amazing how crisp the playcalling is all of a sudden with McNabb out.
November 26, 2007 at 7:10 am
There is a voodoo priestess somewhere chanting…the eagles just recovered their onside kick……..
November 26, 2007 at 7:11 am
Damn, ya’ll got Belichek pacing! lol
November 26, 2007 at 7:12 am
I ain’t saying shit 😉
November 26, 2007 at 7:18 am
Pats killin’ ’em with Moss on the slant

November 26, 2007 at 8:06 am
Yes he is
November 26, 2007 at 8:24 am
Whoa. Are you starting to get that feeling? lol
November 26, 2007 at 8:30 am
I’m trying NOT to get that feeling, D, because as an Eagle fan you know the team always comes up just short, just short.
I’m enjoying the game though and trying not to get too foxy.
November 26, 2007 at 8:38 am
Uh oh. AJ Feeley for President!
November 26, 2007 at 8:39 am
Efffffffff dat! lol
November 26, 2007 at 8:46 am
4 Fingers in the air…as my boys the Stews would say it’s nut-cuttin’ time now
November 26, 2007 at 8:53 am
Pats stopped again?!? I can feel it coming in the air tonight. Oh Lord…

November 26, 2007 at 9:11 am
Hey, DIALLO, that’s between you and the lady in your life…speaking of the Eagles’ D which could use a little bit of Cialis
November 26, 2007 at 9:14 am
Damn a commercial on a blog?
November 26, 2007 at 9:15 am
A turnover would be very nice right now
November 26, 2007 at 9:19 am
Didn’t need that turnover
November 26, 2007 at 9:19 am
Why throw that?
November 26, 2007 at 9:22 am
Game over.
November 26, 2007 at 9:29 am
Come on, come on, come on
November 26, 2007 at 9:30 am
Crap…good game, Eags, good game
November 26, 2007 at 9:33 am
Big up to the Eagles. They showed a lotta heart.
November 26, 2007 at 9:33 am
Yeah they balled out!
November 26, 2007 at 9:34 am
Shut down Moss. Like the announcers said, that’s the blue print. If there’s any team out there with a decent nickle or dime package plus good pressure, the Pats can be beat.
Like I said. Pittsburgh is gonna get ’em.
November 26, 2007 at 9:38 am
Very nice effort by the Eagles, I actually stayed awake for the full game, still, the Pats are the class of the NFL, Welker showed he’s a stud wide receiver in the NFl.
November 26, 2007 at 9:41 am
True, you can’t cover everybody. Welker’s speed was the difference. He gets props.
November 26, 2007 at 9:58 am
NBC news here already posted a text message question regarding who the Eagles should start.
November 26, 2007 at 4:25 pm
why mizzo…..of course they are….that memo went out last night about 11:30pm. Philly sports talk should be particularly fun this week.
November 26, 2007 at 8:23 pm
[…] win over a town that’s old, restless and haggard when it comes to dealing with the Eagles. I blogged the second half of the Eagles 32-24 loss in case the Eagles somehow gutted it out and won. Feeley […]
