Thanks for coming on the site Kaitlynn. Make sure you live with your eyes wide open at all times. By your comment, I can sense your parents have done well with you. Never take them for granted and make them proud like I know you already do. God Bless you.

Martin Luther king has done so much for this country and the world and i thank him for that. i am a 13 year old young black girl and without him my life wouldnt be like how it is now, Barak Obama wouldnt be running for president at this very moment, And i wouldnt be friends with my best friend who is white! I am so happy he did everything he could to help the world and so had his wife! i thank him so much he is a true hero! I wish he would have never died so he could see with his very own eyes how the world is right now and that his dream was right! i thank him so much for everything he has done!

MLK is dead. if he were alive today, i seriously think (as a white) that he would be sick to death of what his people have become and how they are looked at in society. you blacks can pat yourselves on the back, but you still have a long way to go before you're respected as a civilized race, from others and yourselves. wise up. it's very sad that you people have no heroes today, so you have to look back 40 years to someone like MLK, who, of course, is overated as to what he accomplished, considering the wretched state your culture is in. wise up.

Imhotep - Growing up my dad used to drill Marcus Garvey into my head. And every report that I wrote was on someone other than those that we normally celebrate, but Garvey probably had the greatest impact on me. I'm currently reading a book on the life of Kwame Ture (Stokley Carmichael) the book is about 3 1/2 inches thick but so far it's been an excellent read.

Yes, thanks for putting all three speeches side by side that show his evolution with the realities of the times. Like Temple I agree that the last 5 yeras of his life have been stricken from our national memory. The Vietnam war speech is just as relevant today as ever...

I've got a ton of respect for Dr. King, and everytime I hear that I got a dream speech, I get goose bumps.

Dr. King's letter from the Birmingham jail in response to the local ministers and business people, was just as moving. Word is that he wrote that letter on a piece of scratch paper, which suggest to me, God's inspiration flowing through the brother at that very moment.

I hold Marcus Garvey in very high esteem. Personally, I don't think that brother gets enough credit for his movement in the early 20th century. He was quite an orator as well, and one of the few seeking to reclaim Africa.

It's a helluva thing to be at peace (at least partially) when your time is up - even if you're only 39.

I wanted to post these with no words so readers received a true view.

IMO, the Mountaintop Speech is the most important speech of anyone, anywhere, anytime because of how he used his skills to powerfully convey his thoughts. He laid it all out for anyone to hear. You had to listen closely, look past his oratory prowess and charisma to see and feel his thoughts were resigned to understanding an ending of his life was very near. Nothing he or anyone said or did could prohibit the inevitable from occurring.

Another example was Malcolm's smile before he too was assassinated.

Thanks for posting Dr. King's last speech. I don't have much use for that overplayed Dream speech from 1963. The man lived another five years and significantly modified his politics to fit the dynamic reality we faced collectively. His final speech says some things that America would not like one bit...in fact, if folks heard it, they've probably rescind the national holiday.

Great work.

The King family announced that MLK III married shortly after their mom's death, wanted to keep it private....but he and his wife are expecting a little girl!! MLK and Coretta's first grandchild!! I think its wonderful and really makes the King Holiday that much more special.
