DirecTV can pass it for free because they have a sweetheart deal with the NFL on the Sunday Ticket package where DirecTV big against themselves to keep the package exclusive to their service. Carriage of the network at lower cost was a throwaway part of the deal which is why DirecTV was also able to get the Extra Innings package because they agreed to carry the new MLB network in '08.

Believe me, AC, there's a cost everywhere.

It's funny how DirecTV finds a way to pass that lovely channel on to its subscribers for free, but Comcast charges for it...

I have a dog in the fight because I do work for one of the cable companies but I oppose what the NFL is doing because it's a naked money grab. There's no problem with them airing games on their own network but trying to fleece people by charging for a niche ESPN channel the same price as HBO is nothing but wrong. The cable thing is just a job to me but working in the industry I do know how the game is played. Goodell and the owners know the NFL is the big dog in American sports but it is only so big and they will kill the golden goose with this because people don't play about their money. Believe me, I know because I catch as many verbal beatdowns daily as Earl Campbell took hits in his playing days.

I have it through Comcast, so I'm good. This whole thing reminds me of boxing back in the day. It used to be on all the time...for free!

I'm kinda happy to see the NFL NOT get their way like they're accustomed to. The cable companies are just as greedy, so this really isn't a pro cable stance. Moreso an anti-Roger Goodell stance.

I have DirectTV so I get to see the channel regardless.
