JWeil

Seilig is simply following the program regarding racial fealty in America. Polls describing the huge racial chasm that exists in black v. white America vis-a-vis Bonds' achievements are consistant in that show by and large, white Americans hate Bonds and black Americans support him.

One thing I've noticed in my 44 years of living is that it is nigh onto impossible, to find white Americans who, at the end of the day, will go to bat for a black American at the expense of a white one. Honestly, you are one of the first white Americans outside of the Bay area who I've seen show any support of Bonds, or decry any of the hypocrisy surrounding his media lynching, without first making it clear that your defense of due process or the idea of presumption of innocence or, well you get my drift, notwithstanding, you don't want to be construed as actually supporting Bonds.

Selig takes such a pathetic position because he doesn't want to be seen as a traitor to his race, pure and simple.

I thought seeing a 6ft by 6ft Nazi swastika hanging on the bedroom wall of an apartment across the street would be the biggest WTF moment I had today.

Then along came Bud Selig's comment on Bonds. Enjoy.

Nothing subtle about the ESPN graphic, with Hank, young Bonds and old Bonds. Also the headline and the very first sentence of the article as of 9:00pm PDT. They wanna make sure you know all about Mr. Bonds.

Sad.

Had to laugh at the Asterisk signs the SD fans were holding up. Of course, this comes from a guy who as a kid thought Hank Aaron was just the greatest thing ever. And still does actually.

Selig looked incredibly uncomfortable. I don't think I ever saw him clap his hands. And some seriously pursed lips on that sour mug. For being present when a major baseball record was set, he really looked like he wished he was somewhere else.

My thought on the crowd both cheering and booing is this. I think that would almost have to be my response. That is, both at the same time. It is an incredible record. This from a kid who got to see 715 in Atlanta, so I know what it means. Its an achievement that deserves a cheer. But I've been booing Bonds for close to 20 years now, so why stop now?

I'm not sure its just the media that Bonds hasn't cultivated relations with. I don't see many of his former teammates rallying around him.
